Palo Santo Stick
Subject #0016710
We get asked all the time how one can cleanse their new crystal jewelry pieces or even their home or work environments. Well here is a simple answer!
While white sage is the most commonly used substance for smudging, clearing a room of negative energy, or even recharging your crystal jewelry pieces, there are also a significant number of people who choose to instead use palo santo wood, or “holy wood/sticks.” Palo santo is derived from specific trees found in the South American rain forests of the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, and Peru, and has been used throughout history for a variety of healing purposes including in medicinal and spiritual cleansing ceremonies involving both individuals and the spaces they inhabit.
As with sage, the wood should be ignited then gently blown down to an ember to allow the smoke to spread around the room. Guiding the smoke to different areas of the room including corners, inside closets, and in each direction of the compass is important. Also, be sure to allow the wood to produce enough smoke to fill the air. Regardless of what substance you choose, both sage and palo santo are time-tested, ancient tools for clearing space and releasing negative energy.
Similar to placing your mala or crystals out in the sunlight or using a crystal quartz stone for cleansing, you can burn a palo santo stick to cleans your pieces as well. Both mala beads and crystals transmute energy and should be cleansed often––we suggest every 2 months based on wear.
